Vehicle Tyres
As well as working for the agricultural and industrial sectors, Ski Tyres are also experts in the supply and fit of car and 4x4 tyres.
Tyres and the law
Within the UK the law requires that all vehicles must have a minimum of 1.6mm tyre tread depth, across the central ¾ of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre.
To avoid receiving up to 3 points on your license and £2,500 worth of fines (per tyre) make sure that you check your tyres on a regular basis. As an extra safety precaution, it is recommended that you replace your tyres before they reach the legal limit at 3mm.
How do I know when my tyres need to be replaced?
You can check your tyre tread depth with a 20p coin. Place the coin into the tread at three different places on your tyre. If you can see the outer rim of the coin then your tyres could be at the legal limit and it is recommended that you get them checked by a professional.
When your tyres need replacing it is also likely that you will notice that your vehicle will not handle as well and may take longer to stop when braking, especially in wet weather conditions.
What tyres should I choose?
This depends on your vehicle and the type of driving that you do. We can advise you on the type of tyres that best suit your lifestyle.
Should I have winter tyres fitted on my vehicle?
Many people ask if it is important to have winter tyres fitted on their vehicle. Winter tyres have been designed to perform differently to normal tyres, as they have a better grip and a quicker response time when braking in wet, icy and snowy conditions.
Do you offer a mobile fitting service?
Yes, please contact us for more information.
What other services do you offer?
As well as tyre replacement, Ski Tyres also offer a tyre repair service. If you receive a puncture on one of your vehicle’s tyres we will advise if a repair can be carried out. Sometimes for legal reasons a new tyre may still need to be fitted.
We also offer a wheel alignment and balancing service for cars and 4x4s.
